    Is the prop on backwards?
Just because you reverse the polarity (positive to negative instead of positive to positive) doesn’t mean that it will go in reverse. You could hurt something by reversing the polarity…. it may not look like it but there are some circuits in there that you can damage.

It sounds like the current is running backwards, your + is crossed to your – somewhere. Look at your plug and at your battery. If it’s not there then it’s in your plug on the motor.

I’ve read of manufacturers sometimes wiring it wrong on the inside, so make sure the external side is all good.

Check the owners manual. Electric trolling motors often run in forward AND reverse. It seems your problem is that the wiring inside the motor is hooked up wrong. Forward is wired to reverse and reverse is not wired at all. By switching the plug you may have burned out something.

If you bought it new and under warranty, you voided the warranty by messing with the electrical system. Best you can do now is take it to a motor shop and let them fix it for you. Then you pay for it.
