How to find out the correct size of trolling motor for your boat?

P H asked:

I have a tri-hull boat with a 60 hp motor. I would like to know if a chart or formula is available.

No ,there isn’t a “chart” or “formula”.

However, most 55-70LB thrust motors will propel boats quickly, from 14-19 FT long. You would probably need a 55LB thrust motor. If you don’t feel confident, ask your local boat salesman/manufacturer.(My first boat was an old 77′ 14FT tri-hull/40HP & I had a 40LB motor on it and it worked great; it weighed approx. 1000Lb’s)

Try getting a Marine catalog from “Cabelas” & “Bass Pro Shops”.

try to figure out how much weight you will be carrying.
look at manufacturer’s listed specs. shop around.
