Has anyone every used a trolling motor with a pedal boat?

Okobojibel asked:

Hello, I have bought a used pedal boat and I had been given a T28 trolling motor. Has anyone ever put one on the back? I know I’ll have to bet a deep cycle marine battery for the motor. I guess I just want some feedback on the large/heavy battery vs the not so heavy boat. Thanks.

Your biggest problem wont be the weight of the battery, but rather the boat fins causing the boat to turn or move slower with the trolling motor running. the pedals might even turn when the motor is running so that may be a pain. If i am guessing right, you have fins below the pedal boat and not those big wheels in the front and sides, right? if you have under boat fins then i suggest mounting the trolling motor on the side of the boat and working the boat sideways down the lake to avoid the drag caused by the pedals.

I had one with built in trolling motor. worked well and yes the paddles turn but they dont slow it down that much. going sideways will not work at all because the boat is shaped to go forward, not sideways. the battery weight did not affect mine at all. mine was a 4 seater though so maybe different for you.
